Position Summary:

Indigo Signs is looking for an accounting professional with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to learn/expand their analysis skills. Our accounting team supports business operations, business information, and compliance across two states and seven offices. This role will focus on day-to-day accounting and will work with the CFO to continue developing our accounting practices, financial process interactions with operations, and business systems. As a small team, this role will have an analysis opportunity via building relevant financial/business decision information for our Executive team, operations, Board of Directors, and lenders.

The role is based in our Fargo, North Dakota office, depending upon past experience there is an opportunity to have direct reports. Travel to our other locations in North Dakota and Minnesota may be required on a limited basis.

For an existing Staff/Senior Accountant who possesses strong accounting knowledge, enjoys day-to-day interaction with business operations, and desires to evolve the business and financial skills.

Responsibilities:

COMPLIANCE

  • Responsible for employing generally accepted accounting principles and working with our external accounting partners to ensure we proactively implement changes to accounting practices. Meet with CFO and Audit team on a quarterly basis.
  • Help project manage our year-end activities, working closely with an external accounting firm to ensure audit information (corporate and 401K), taxes, and K-1s are delivered as needed.
  • Work with our CFO to provide our lenders with all covenant compliance information.
  • Oversee our State and Use Tax by monitoring nexus, working with our audit firm to maintain current practices for our invoicing/purchasing, as well as reporting and submitting monthly/quarterly payments.

BUSINESS SUPPORT

  • Partner with CFO on cash flow and treasury management, including preparing and maintaining weekly cash projections.
  • Work with the business team to ensure our accounting accurately reflects our daily operations and we have proper classification of activities between the cost of goods and support.
  • Work with our Sales team to ensure accurate invoicing and the initial phase of receivable collection by providing timely notice of any past due amounts.
  • Partner with our Operations team to understand our inventory requirements so we can properly capture and categorize all inventory information so that we can understand spending and manage usage.
  • Support the creation of the annual budget and monthly forecasting.

MONTHLY CLOSE

  • Establish and maintain a consistent and timely monthly close process with reconciliations of balance sheet accounts on monthly basis and develop weekly activities to proactively record/review transactions. Ensure general ledger data is classified accurately and transactions recorded.
  • Work with Business Systems owners to ensure all information either entered or uploaded into financial systems is accurate.
  • Financial statement preparation.
  • Manage and maintain all corporate governance regarding capitalization tables, structure, and board support.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset records.

ACCOUNTING TEAM PRACTICES

  • Maintain and document standards for all areas of the accounting department for daily, weekly, etc. requirements.
  • Ensure business continuation with documentation of key processes and development of backup within the team for critical processes.
  • Support process improvements within Accounting/Finance ongoing.
  • Work hand-in-hand with our Business Systems owners to ensure we are using our ERP to its fullest capabilities for both compliance and efficiency.
  • Ensure all company transactions are conducted in an ethical and business-like manner.
  • Maintain open communication and effective and cooperative relationships.

Business Experience

    • 3-5 years of general accounting roles
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
    • Experience in a manufacturing and/or contract manufacturing is desired, but not required
    • Prior experience with a firm of $10 million or greater
    • Experience/Interest in managing remote team members
    • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Technology skills

    • Advanced Excel capabilities and ability to work with large sets of data
    • Experience in working with business ERP (e.g. NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics)
    • Added “bonus” skills: Experience KeyedIn (either Manufacturing or Signs version), EPICOR, JobBoss, Striven
