Things You Should Know When Buying a Sign

Choose a trusted partner.

At Indigo Signs, we strive for excellence in all aspects of our working lives: from design, fabrication techniques, installation, and service work. Our team will work with you to give you the best options available while assisting you with understanding what you need to know to make the best decisions for your business.

Make an appropriate timeline.

Depending on the complexity of your sign, it can take weeks to months to complete your project. There are many steps in the process:

  • You will need an approved design & estimate.
  • Materials have to get ordered.
  • Permits need to be submitted and approved.
  • The sign needs to be fabricated and installed.

If you have a grand opening planned, your sign needs to be started months in advance.

Set an actual budget.

You need to know much money you have to spend on the project. It is common for customers to say, “I don’t know what a sign costs.” This is frequently true, but the cost of the sign won’t impact how much money you have available.

Define your goals

Do you want your sign to be an attention-grabbing icon or an identifier for your business? Would a digital sign help you communicate certain information to customers? Is your sign a clinching feature of your brand? Understanding some of your goals beforehand can help you decide what type of sign to choose.

Think longevity.

Saving money upfront is appealing, but you usually get what you pay for. Paying for replacement components years before you planned on it is never an enjoyable surprise. Some companies also don’t adhere to quality manufacturing processes, and you may have a sign that rusts quickly, has peeling paint, or starts to fail due to weather and water intrusion. Indigo Signs stands behind our manufacturing with a comprehensive warranty covering two years on manufactured signage and five years on LED lighting components.

Design.

Know what you like and don’t like. If you don’t like specific colors, don’t like an industrial look, or want to avoid certain materials, it helps to communicate that upfront. Similarly, it helps to know what you wish in colors, lighting, size, and overall vibe. Are you a visual person? Take a look at some of our completed signage projects for some inspiration!

Know who your decision-maker is.

Try to keep decisions to as small a group as possible. Give your salesperson access to the decision-makers, not a project gatekeeper. This will help you avoid completing much design work before a group can critique and provide feedback on a design. This will help speed up the project and avoid unnecessary extra work.

Know your building.

Know where people will be coming from, the primary access points, and the traffic flow around the building. Knowing this information can help us access the best types of signage, size, and locations for the most effective impact.

Having a trusted partner should be one of your top priorities with a new sign. Indigo Signs has you covered, with unmatched experience, to provide the most cost-effective on-premise interior and exterior advertising solutions available.
